Student drop off time begins at 7:15am. There are no teachers on duty before that time. Students cannot be dropped off and left to sit or stand outside until 7:15am. Safety is a concern when there is no supervision. Morning bus routes are available to all students if there is difficulty getting your child to school after 7:15am. Thank you for your help in ensuring the safety of our children.

The tardy bell rings at 7:50 am. It is vital to your children's success that they practice good time management habits and get to school on time. If your child comes to school after 7:50 am, please walk them to the office so a tardy slip can be made. All late students must be present in the office to check in. Parents cannot send students to class, then come to the office to check them in.

Car rider numbers will be given to every family. Also, they can be obtained in the office.  At the beginning of the school year, car rider numbers assigned will stay that family's car rider number throughout their time at Summerdale School. The car rider numbers will stay the same.  However, the color of the paper numbers are printed on and the school year will be different EVERY year.  Thus, every family receives a new copy of their car number.  Please use the current year, because they are color coded. Car Rider line starts at the stop sign next to the Summerdale School football field. Students are dismissed to the cafeteria at 2:50 pm or when their assigned bus departs (some buses leave before 3:00 pm).

Our School Bell Schedule is as follows:

7:15 am - Car line drop-off begins 

7:45 am - First bell rings. School begins

7:45 am - Car rider line ends and students are tardy after 7:50 am.

2:00 pm - Transportation changes need to be made by 2:00 pm. Making last-minute changes could create confusion for the students. Please do your best to make end of the day transportation plans at home.

2:50 pm - Dismissal

3:15 pm - All car riders must be picked up  

We appreciate all those who would like to give their time and come to the school to volunteer. If you need assistance, please call the Front Office. 

We can only accept signed parent notes for transportation changes. If you need to change transportation altogether, please stop by the office to verify this change has been made in our system. We want to ensure your child's safety when they are with us. 

Please come to the front office. Please have your driver's license ready to show to office staff to pick up your child. The office staff will verify you are on file to check out your child. 

All Baldwin County schools use PowerSchool for recording grades and attendance. Click here to access the portal. At the beginning of the school year, you will be provided with a user id and password for each of your children who are enrolled in school. You may then access online grades by going to the website for your child's school, clicking on the online grades icon in the upper left panel, and entering the user id and password. You will be able to view your child's grades for each course, along with attendance and discipline records.

Please protect this confidential information. Should you misplace it, you must request it in person from the school registrar. No passwords will be provided over the phone.

Your child will receive medication from a licensed nurse or a trained medication assistant. The school nurses are required to follow the Alabama Board of Nursing and the State Department of Education standards and guidelines in order to administer medications in the schools. All medication assistants receive a maximum of 12 hours medication training before permission is granted to assist with medication administration.  A Prescriber/Parent Authorization Form must be signed before a child may receive prescription medication. The Prescriber/ Parent Authorization form is on the Health Services Section of the BCBE website. Children entering school in the fall are required by Alabama Law to present a Certificate of Immunization formerly known as a “Blue Card “.
 Children entering Kindergarten need boosters of DTaP, Polio, MMR and Varicella. These shots complete the childhood series for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTap), Polio (IPV), Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) and Varicella.
 Children age 11 and entering the 6th grade need a Tdap vaccination. In addition, children in this age group are strongly recommended to receive HPV (a cancer preventing vaccine) and MCV4 which protects against the most common types of meningitis.
